Scientific truth does not triumph by convincing opponents – Max Planck

Max Planck 1The photo is from The Solvay Conference on Quantum Mechanics 1927.

Ideas from quantum mechanics were fiercely opposed by those who believed that the natural world obeyed certain “laws”. Now quantum ideas are not only widely accepted but becoming more a part of common parlance almost every day.

The stalwarts, nay-sayers and flat-earthers of psychiatry’s institutions have much invested in their positions, careers and low golf handicaps.

It is the natural order of things that they will feel fear and reluctance to unlearn what they have been indoctrinated to believe and they will be confronted with their own dis-ability/inability  to learn and maybe even refusal to expand their own horizons. This will limit and constrain their  capacity to play useful role in society – but it not need limit the ability of human society to learn and grow.

And those who do not wish to learn and grow with us will wither and die away and ultimately be forgotten.

The old guard, with their narrow perspective and closed minds will, in time, make way for new generations with broader perspectives and open, inquiring minds. Thusly equipped, they will be more capable of dealing with the very complex nature of the world in which we live and the even more complex nature of our human soul and our very human experiences.

It is not written anywhere that bio-bio-biopsychiatry is the ultimate understanding of the human psyche/soul – the time for it to pass through the wormhole into the realm of tired old ideas is already upon us.

It is time now to put the SOUL  back into psych – and psych services especially – perhaps we can get back to the idea of soul-healing.

Quantum soul-healing anyone?
