- Do you care about human rights?
- Do you believe that a person’s story is more important than the psychiatric label that they’re given?
- Do you think people who hear distressing voices or see visions should have the opportunity to make sense of their experiences and reclaim their lives?
- Do you want to stand alongside people across the world to support the Hearing Voices Movement to help us make a real change in the way people who hear voices are seen and supported in society?
Hearing voices is such a common experience, most of us know at least one person who hears voices that other people don’t. However, voice-hearing still remains a taboo subject for many. Whilst voice-hearing is accepted in some cultures, media images of madness and violence are all too common. This stigma can be more crippling than the voices themselves.
“One of a million” is a mass campaign which aims to sign up one million members to the International Hearing Voices Movement. It’s an opportunity to stand up and be counted – linking with allies across the world to send a strong message that hearing voices is a meaningful human experience.
To reach our target, we need you to encourage everyone you know to sign up too. We welcome voice-hearers, people who see visions or have other unusual perceptions, family members, carers, workers and other allies. This is a real chance to be part of history. If you sign up, you will receive our newsletter and regular updates on the campaign. You will also have the chance to become a full members of the movement.
The Hearing Voices Movement is, at its heart, a vibrant civil rights movement. As our recent congress in Cardiff showed, amazing things happen when we connect with others who share similar hopes and dreams. So, if you want things to change for people who hear voices – you’re not alone. A lone voice is easily drowned out, but a million people standing together is a force to be reckoned with.
